Angel of The North | Panoramic | North East Landscape Photography

Landscape photography of The Angel Of The North in Gateshead by North East Captures.

The Angel of the North, a contemporary sculpture, was designed by Antony Gormley and is situated in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, England. Completed in 1998, the sculpture is a steel representation of an angel, standing at a height of 20 meters (66 feet) with wings spanning an impressive 54 meters (177 feet). The wings are angled forward at a 3.5-degree inclination, as per Gormley’s intention to evoke a sense of embrace. Notably, the angel, like many of Gormley’s other creations, is based on a cast of his own body. The sculpture is positioned on a hill at Low Eighton in Lamesley parish, overlooking the A1 and A167 roads, as well as the East Coast Main Line rail route. The site is situated south of the former Team Colliery.
